Top Ten Tuesday (54) : Top Ten Bookworm Delights

top ten tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Brokeandbookish. This week’s theme is Top Ten Bookworm Delights. I think it has been going on around Twitter and everywhere, that basically, we aren’t bookworms, but book dragons, and I COMPLETELY agree with that. It sounds so much better. Anyway…here are some of my bookworm, I mean, book dragon delights!

1 • Getting new books

Obviously. I mean, as a bookworm, we always get a bit crazy when we get new books. Let’s be honest, opening that package and finding these beautiful new babies is the most wonderful feeling in the world.

2 • Reading a book and realizing just HOW DAMN GOOD IT IS.

There are books that you start reading, and then, well, you just can’t stop. Reading, thinking about it, dreaming about it, basically going crazy about it. Those kind of books are just THE BEST.

3 •  New book / bookish news from a favorite author

Honestly, there are many moments when I’m going crazy because of books, but, when learning that your ABSOLUTE FAVORITE AUTHOR of all times is writing again, seeing the title, getting a synopsis, waiting for the release date…it’s all so exciting/nerve-wracking/making you giddy like a child.

4 • Finding new books to add to your TBR

I can’t even BEGIN to explain how much my TBR has grown since I started blogging…yet I can’t stop. And the feeling that goes with the “oh my, that book sounds awesome, I need to read it”, is honestly one of the greatest feelings.

5 • Talking about books with bookish people

Okay, I guess that the appropriate word here should be FANGIRLING, and in all caps, please. But is there anything greater than to talk about a book you loved, or a “meh” book, just, talk about books, characters, and fictional words with amazing people?.

6 • FINALLY having some time to read in a busy day

If you’re sometimes, having busy days and can’t even find the time to open a book…well, that’s sad, but it happens, unfortunately. So, when I finally get a moment, a few minutes, a break to catch up on my reading, it really makes me happy.

7 • FINALLY getting the last book of a series you loved

There’s the anticipation, there’s the wait, and then, it’s finally here. The last book in that series you love, it’s here, and you can devour it in one sitting. This is so, so, so great.

8 • Getting beautiful bookshelves to display your books

This recently happened to me. My wonderful dad built me bookshelves, and I got to fill them with all of my wonderful books. Seriously, I could stare at it for hours, days.

9 • Staying for HOURS in a bookshop, just because, well, BOOKS

Since I’m living in France, and English books shelves are RIDICULOUSLY little, I always get SO excited whenever I’m going on holidays, or where there are actual English bookshops. Staring at the spine, making a delicious pile of too many books that will ruin you, is really the best thing a bookworm can do.

10 • Falling in love with reading, all over again

This happens when you read a favorite book again, when you discover a wonderful story, one that breaks your heart, makes you think, one that just is wonderful. You’re falling in love with reading, and how amazing it is, all over again. Really, is there something better than that?

What are some of YOUR bookworm delights? Do we share the same?  On the contrary, is there something that you absolutely can’t stand (torn pages, BROKEN BOOKS?) ? Let’s chat in comments! 💬

  1. This is such a DELIGHTFUL post! AHA, it filled my insides with JELLY because you know what’s a bookworm delight? FINDING PEOPLE WHO UNDERSTAND ALL THE BOOKISH. People will look at me like a psycho out in the physical world BUT LOOK AT ALL THESE OTHER BOOKWORMS WHO UNDERSTAND IT ALL.

Completely agree with this post. EVERY SINGLE ONE. From getting that lovely smelling piece of LOVELY to FANGIRLING (emphasise that cap locks by a million) and FALLING IN LOVEEEE.

So now, something I don’t love so much? (I could go on but let us not experience too big of a rant 😛 ) Dropping my book but, wait for it, picking it up to discover THE CREASE ON THE COVER. I mean sometimes it just strikes through the WHOLE HALF BOOK and I cry and wail like nobody has ever soon. ESPECIALLY when the book looks SO DAMN LOVELY or the crease just cuts through the ‘symbol’ of the book IT KILLS ME.

    1. AHHH I’m so glad you agree! And I feel like we haven’t talked in forever?! It’s been days but IT IS FOREVER. ❤ Ohh, I just hate it when I just like, drop my book, or dog ear without wanting to, and UGH it's the worst feeling yes, it makes me SO sad 😦
THANK YOU for your GREATNESS ❤

      1. UGHHH I know! I’M SO SORRY. I don’t know what’s been with me lately but I haven’t been blogging OR commenting lately 😦 But do not fear, I am back for good now 😉

Right? The poor pages and covers! It also sucks when I leave my book on a table or something and it just so happens to be wet and it KILLS ME. The poor covers ;(

THANK YOU MY PRECIOUS AND YOU’RE WELCOME.

  2. I can empathise with so many of these! I live in Germany so have a similar experience with limited English book selection in stores… I can always order them through the store’s online portal of course, but it’s not quite the same as browsing rows of real shelves and spending hours just wandering through the book store deciding what to buy.

    1. Ohh I’m so happy to find someone who understands my struggle, ahah. It’s just so hard to find the books I want in bookshops here, so I just order online. But yes, oh I love the feeling of going into a bookshop and spending hours just looking at shelves ❤ Thank you so much Nicola! 🙂

  3. Yes to the last 5!

I try to go to a bookstore at least once a week and spend hours there, just breathing in all the books. I may not always buy something but simply being around books and book lovers is so calming and therapeutic.

I’m slowly warming up to the term “book dragon.” I preferred book “wyrm” but dragon has a much mightier sound to it. And as book Bloggers we certainly are the fiercest of the book lovers. We are Dragons!

    1. Yay, so glad you agree with these! 🙂 Oh you’re so lucky, I wish I could do that, but well, I don’t have great bookshops I love, I do try and go to bookshops regularly, but it’s not the same as an all-English-books bookshop, where I can feel happy, peaceful AND find gorgeous books as well.
OH yes, we really are, I love that term 😀
Thank you so, so much! 🙂

  5. Book dragon sounds great. I need to start using that.

I love no 7. Getting the last book of a series is a great feeling, but sometimes I get caught between wanting to finish it quickly to get to the ending, and savoring it as slowly as possible, because it is the last book and we’re saying goodbye to the characters and to the world.

    1. I need to start using that term as well, it sounds awesome, so much better than bookworm!
I’m glad you agree! Oh yes, that’s definitely a struggle with the last book, I want to eat it all at once, and I want to savour it, as well. But well, if it’s good, there’s always re-reads 😀
Thank you so much for your comment! ❤

    1. Hahaha, oh I get the feeling, some people just don’t understand…when I got my new bookshelf, I could stare at it forever, and well, I kind of did, ahah. I’m so glad book blogging and people like YOU are here, because well, it makes me feel normal, and it’s so awesome 😀
      Thank you so much! ❤

  7. GREAT LIST, MARIE. #6 – Tucking in with a book after a really busy, full-on day is just the best feeling and so, so comforting.

#8 – YOUR BOOKSHELF, OH MY GOD. I thought it was something out of Pinterest or something when I was scrolling down. Just so beautiful! If I were you I’d totally be staring at it for hours and days too. 😛

  9. the gifs in this post are PERFECT. I love that excitement when an author you love is announcing a new book, and you just imagine the hours that you’re going to spend freaking out about it! 🙂 I tend to spend hours in a bookshop too, so I understand!
    here’s my TTT!

  10. Omg…staying for hours in a bookstore! I love that! I don’t get to do it as much these days. I can understand so many of these bookish delights which you’ve listed! Bookish issues I can’t stand…doggie-eared pages, books whose covers weren’t taken care off and carelessly bent. Those are some of the few things I absolutely can’t stand!

      1. I know…it irks me…it get if books deteriorate due to age and years of handling but on when a book cover hasn’t seen that many years and it’s cover gets bent and torn oh my heart breaks for it 😢

  11. YES to all of these! Especially FANGIRLING (Is there anything better than talking about someging you love with other people who love it just as much?) and BROWSING BOOKSTORES. I especially understand your point 9 because I live in Belgium and we also don’t have many English books in our stores. So when I do find one with a great selection I can totally stay for HOURS 🙂

    1. Oh NO, there’s nothing better than talking about the books we love, we agree on that 😀 Ohh really? Well I’m right next door, in France 🙂 I wish we’d get more English bookshops, but well…I just order online for now, then. But there’s something awesome about staying at a bookshop for hours 😀
      Thank you so much! ❤

  12. Getting to the last book in a series, and actually having it in your hands is really a wonderful feeling! Specially if it’s been a long journey (4+ books), or a trilogy that’s been spaced out over 3+ years.

  13. I can really relate too all of these! This is why I read hahaha basically!
New bookish news is definitely up there for me! Just hearing that a sequel has a cover or title or just that the author is writing a new book is exciting!
Your bookcase is beautiful as well- I need to get myself one!

One thing I do hate is getting spoiled about a series on social media, especially twitter! Sometimes I still want to read the book but most times I then want to skip it.

    1. ME TOO! I just feel so crazy when there are book news, but I’m thankful because the book blogging people, my kind of people, just like YOU, understand my craziness, haha! ❤
Aww thank you, it took me very long to get one, before that, well, I'll let you imagine for yourself my room, it was basically, books everywhere ahah.
Oh yes, I hate being spoiled as well, I think the surprise while reading a book really is one of the best things.
Thank you so, so much! ❤

      1. Hahaha it’s like we are all weirdos here so we are free to be weird together on our blogs and other platforms. There should really be a thing like Bookish Pride week or something- I should make that happen hahaha.
A room with books everywhere? A typical bookworm bedroom 😀
        Your welcome!

  14. These are all such amazing picks for this week! I am the same when it comes to getting new books, there is no better feeling than seeing the package on your doorstep and knowing there are books waiting there for you. That feeling is probably why I’m constantly over budget when it comes to buying books!
And definitely talking about books with other people. Honestly it’s my favourite thing about blogging, seeing other people’s opinions and adding my own, whether it’s series I loved or series I didnt. That’s the main reason I started this blog if I’m being honest!
I loved all your picks for this week. I feel they pretty much all apply to me as well, and probably a lot of other bloggers out there 😀

    1. Thank you so much Beth! ❤ I love this week's topic, because it really shows how alike we can be, and it's so great to be bookworms all together. Or book dragons, well, book lovers, ahah ❤ I think talking about books is the main reason why I started blogging as well, and I don't regret it one single second. It is INCREDIBLE ❤

      1. Exactly, I have so many similar items on my list as other bloggers do, and everyone can relate to pretty much all the points can’t they?
Yes being bookworms together is my favourite part of WordPress! I love talking to everyone about literally everything and I agree with you I don’t regret a second of it because this is something I never want to give up, posting on my blog and talking with you and everyone else on here ❤️

  15. YOUR BOOKSHELVES ARE SO BEAUTIFUL ❤️❤️❤️ I totally agree with ALL of your picks Marie, especially FANGIRLING with fellow book lovers 😘

  16. Oh my goodness! Yes to so many of these. The feeling when you get a new book is such pure delight! And pretty bookshelves – yes. I LOVE your colour-coded shelves. So pretty!!!

I also totally agree about the fun of fangirling over a book with a friend. I have a couple of friends IRL who I can do this with and it is so so important.

What do I can I not stand? When someone borrows a book and a) doesn’t give it back or b) gives it back damaged like it’s no big deal. I understand that sometimes books get damaged. But own up to it!

    1. Aww thank you Trisha, so much, for your sweet comment! IT’s so great to find people loving books as much as we do, because we can talk about it for hours, and we don’t seem crazy, at all.
Oh, I can’t stand that either…probably one of the reasons why I don’t let people borrow my books, ahah. Except my sister, but I know she won’t do anything bad to them, she’s almost just like me. But otherwise, I’m way too careful with my books, it make me so sad when people are careless about it.
Thank you so much! ❤ ❤

      1. It’s so hard to determine who will take care of books and who won’t. I love sharing books with people. Especially books I’ve loved! But I don’t want my babies to get hurt. Haha

    1. Aww thank you so, so much! ❤ I struggled a bit, and it broke my heart to divide my series, ahah, but well, I feel happy with that…for now, ahah. It took me a bit too long for me to say, ahah, but I'm a perfectionnist as well…*hides*. Thank you so much Trang! ❤
