The Burrito Bowl Book Tag

Hi bookish friends, how was your week? I couldn’t be happier that it’s over, and now, the weekend ahead, my favorite part!

Today is the day where I like to talk about books. Wait, that’s everyday, right?! Well, let’s start. Today is the day I LOVE to talk about books in a strange, different way. Like, talking about books, while talking about food. And Burritos? Who doesn’t love burritos?! Summer @ xingsings tagged me to answer some yummy questions. So let’s get started!burrito-bowl-book-tag-image-750x450

  3. Tag 5 others to create their own bowl
  4. Food coma

Rice: The Foundation – “The book that got you into reading (or book blogging)”

looking for alaskaI don’t think I can remember THE book that got me into reading, because, as far as I remember, I’ve been reading books. Maybe I was born already reading, haha. I know that I’ve always been reading, but reading John Green’s novel, Looking for Alaska, really changed me and made me want to read books forever. I guess that kind of explains the name of my blog, too…

Beans: The Filler – “A book with a whole lot of nothing happening”

the here and nowRight now, I can’t think of any book where kind of NOTHING happens, but I can think of a book I was kind of disappointed of. The premise for The Here and Now, by Ann Brashares sounded so promising, and I was looking forward to reading it, and seeing this author in a genre completely different from Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants. Well, the story felt slow-paced and sometimes, TOO slow even, and, I don’t know, it was an okay read, but I expected more to happen.

Protein: The Building Block – “A book quote to live by”

If you don’t know it by now, I love quotes. I love reading them, over and over again, and I want to put up LOTS of quotes on my walls to inspire me. I will apologize if you don’t like John Green, but my favorite quote of all times is this one.

john green quote

Fajitas: The Crunch of Texture – “A book with immaculate world-building”

the golden compassIn terms of world-building, the book that comes to my mind is The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman. It’s one of my favorite books, even though I read it YEARS ago, and I’m amazed by the world that the author managed to create, and make us believe in. I want a daemon so badly.

Salsa: The Dance of Flavour – “A book that kept you on your toes”

more than thisI KNOW, I need to read more of Patrick Ness’ novels, and they are on my TBR for this year, and I am going to order one right now. Because with More than this, he kept me on my toes, well, actually, more like kept me two centimeters away from a cliff, and I was scared, and stressed, and completely mesmerized by this story.

Corn: The Explosion of Sweetness – “A memorable scene involving friendship/romance”

emmy and oliversince you've been goneTo be honest, I don’t know how to answer this one without giving out any spoilers…So I will answer this question a different way : I really loved some of Emmy & Oliver’s scenes, especially the ones between Emmy & Oliver, obviously, but also between their group of friends. In terms of friendships, I can say that I loved scenes in Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson, too.

Cheese: The Bond of Calcium – “Two characters from different books you wish could be friends”

I really tried, and I can’t find any two people who should be friends…any ideas?!

Sour Cream: The Tangy Topper – “The quirkiest character you’ve ever read (protagonist or supporting)”

accident seasonOne of the quirckiest character I’ve ever read about, was probably Bea in The Accident Season. I really LOVED her, she was completely different from all the characters I’ve read about before, kind of crazy, kind of weird, kind of in her own world, and I really liked it.

Guacamole: The Cost of Creaminess – “A book you paid too much for (based on utility experienced)”

pllWithout a second thought, I’ll have to say ALL THE BOOKS in The Pretty Little Liars series. I got quickly addicted…and even if I want to know how it ends, it’s just, SO, MANY, books. I shouldn’t have bought so many books. WHY.

Lettuce: The Handful of Crispness – “A refreshing concept/theme in a book”

a thousand pieces of youI really loved the whole idea of A Thousand Pieces of You. Going in between different worlds, different countries, different times, was really different from anything I’ve read before, and I really liked that. Let’s hope the second book is even better than the first.

Chips: Le Pièce de Résistance – “A must-read recommendation if you like Coming of Age Stories”

the perks of being a wallflowerI’ll go easy for that one, because, this book tag is EXHAUSTING TO DO. Just kidding, I’m having fun, ahah. I really like coming of age stories, and I think, in that particular genre, you NEED to read The Perks of Being a Wallflower, if you didn’t, yet. It’s a classic, and it’s perfect -and perfectly going to make you cry.

Tabasco: The Kick to the Face – “Your favourite fight/action sequence”

mara dyer 1ignite meSame as for the question before about a friendship and romance scene, as not to spoil anyone, I will just quote some books. Loved the action sequences in the Mara Dyer series, and in Ignite Me especially. Go read those books!

Do you agree with my answers? What about you, what’s the book that got you into reading, or into book blogging? Totally unrelated, but, DO YOU LIKE BURRITOS?! Tell me everything in comments 💬

  1. John Green has been such a massive influence on my reading too. He’s just the best. I have no time for John Green haters! I wonder if the Looking For Alaska movie is still happening. I feel like I haven’t heard anything about it for ages. In some ways I don’t mind. The emotional preparation it is going to take for me to see that movie… Well it’ll be a lot. TFIOS DESTROYED me.

I’m not sure what books got me into reading either. I remember a very battered hardback of fairytales from around the world that I read a lot when I was a kid.

And yes. I love a god vegetarian burrito.

    1. You’re so right about this, no time for John Green haters. I mean, they can like whatever they want, but I just won’t pay attention to them, anymore! 🙂 Oh, that’s a good question…I have no idea. Actually, I’d prefer if it didn’t happen, at all. TFIOS destroyed me, too, and I don’t think I’ll be able to handle the feels of seeing lLooking for Alaska on the big screen. And WHAT IF THEY RUIN IT. I will be so mad.
It’s so hard to remember when it feels like we’ve been reading forever! 🙂

      1. I know. I’m pretty good at separating the movie/book experiences, but even I would be putting a lot of pressure on that one. I googled it. Apparently it’s ‘on hold’ because they can’t find a girl they like enough to play Alaska.

  2. As always, great answers, Marie! I personally love John Green and would have quotes from him plastered all over my walls if there were enough room!
Also, I like Burroitos, but I don’t really eat them very often.

    1. If only, we should get ourselves a HUGE house, with a room dedicated to ALL the quotes we love. Everywhere on the walls. Wouldn’t that be BEAUTIFUL?! 😀
I love them, too, but like you, I don’t eat them very often… but now, I’m craving one, ahah! 🙂
      Thank you Kat! ❤

  3. I remember wanting to read The Golden Compass when I was in my preteen years but then I read about the controversy with the series and of a certain faith, and for some reason I never read it! I do want to read it though. Now I feel like I have an extra incentive knowing it’s one of your favorites. ^.^

    1. Oh yes, you’re right, there was a whole debate about that series, I forgot about it. Well, I read that book when I was maybe 14 or less, so I didn’t really look that up, or cared, ahah. But yes it’s one of my favorites, and the world-building is incredible. I hope you’ll read it, I want to know what you think about it! 😀

  4. I LOVE BURRITOS. AND PERKS. They’re both amazing (I honestly can’t decide which I love the most…) – I recently re-read Perks, and I’ve been recommending it like crazy. I loved some of the action scenes in Mara Dyer, and the concept in ATPOY was so refreshing (just like the cover!).

Thanks so much for sharing this tag, Marie! I really need to do this soon, haha 😀

  5. This is such a fun tag! I’m glad you bought all the Pretty Little Liars’ books, I actually really enjoyed that series. The plot is sooo addicting 🙂 I agree that Ignite Me has got the best action scenes. Juliette becomes such a badass. I can’t wait to read some of Ness’ books. Lovely post!

      1. Yes they definitely are a guilty pleasure read but I actually thought the plot was really well-done! I think I’ll start with A Monster Calls for my first Ness book, really soon no doubt.

      2. I totally agree, the 8th book had that perfect ending that wrapped everything up but still held that mysterious could-be twist. I tried the next two and couldn’t really get into them.

  6. THE GOLDEN COMPASS YESYESYES. I’m glad I found a fellow fan :’) I loved how the entire series sucked you into a whole new world, and how every single aspect of the world was explored. It was beautiful ❤

I haven't read the Pretty Little Liar books, but I have seen the TV show which is JUST as good. Even if it gets repetitive after a while. SINCE YOU'VE BEEN GONE IS ADORABLE SQUEE. It makes me want to write my own lists.

  7. Nooo I cannot believe I still haven’t read The Golden Compass/Northern Lights. It’s like THE YA book. I’ve heard that the series as a whole isn’t great but that the first book is amazing so i definitely want to read this at some point. I’ll probably forget about it for another 5 years but it will be read!

  8. I am really hoping to get to Shatter Me and Mara Dyer this year. I wanted to last year and just never got around to it. Same with Since You’ve Been Gone, Emmy & Oliver, and A Thousand Pieces of You! So many awesome sounding books to read, sigh. Lol. Great post and answers!

  9. I have never been interested in John Green’s books – but that quote totally changed my mind because it’s so beautiful and so true.
I adore Patrick Ness, and I have yet to read a book of his that I disliked. My favourite remains the Chaos Walking trilogy, but I have not had a chance to check out More Than This yet.

    1. Oh, wow, this makes me so, so happy. I understand that John Green isn’t for everyone, or even that there are some preconceived ideas about him and his work. But for me, this quote is everything and perfectly shows how and why I love him. I really hope you’ll try to read one of his books soon 🙂
The Chaos Walking trilogy is on my TBR for this year, I can’t wait to read it! So glad it’s your favorite. More than this blew me away, you have to read it 😀
Thank you so much for stopping by, Aentee! ❤
